Both equestrianism and baseball are given due attention, while the triumph of local swimmer Ian Thorpe over Gary Hall at the finish of the 4 x 100m relay underlines the importance of crowd support at the Olympics. Greenspan's commentary reminds us that Australia is one of just four nations that have competed in every Olympiad.
