Gabriel Medina narrowly missed out on the podium as surfing made its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020.

The Brazilian produced some brilliant moves in the... early rounds, but narrowly lost his semi-final to Japan’s Kanoa Igarashi and lost the bronze medal match by an even tighter margin to Owen Wright of Australia.

Medina’s Brazil teammate Italo Ferreira took home men’s surfing’s first Olympic gold medal.
